Ogmore Vale & The Garw Valley
Both communities were quiet farming areas until the coal mining industry took hold. The Ogmore Valley Railway and The Garw Valley railway opened the area to extensive coal mining throughout the industrial revolution. Although the coal industry has completely closed down in the area many commute to the nearby town of Bridgend where there is a wide variety of employers from multinational organisations to smaller local businesses.

Naturally this stone was a bi product of the extensive mining operations and thus this material was in abundance at the time.
