Cynon Valley

The Cynon Valley is very similar to the Rhondda Valley and other South Wales Valleys. Coal mining was the core industry throughout South Wales during the turn of the 20th century. The Cynon valley boasted the final deep mine in Wales (Tower Colliery) which finally closed in the summer of 2009. The Cynon Valley is also the home of the only whisky distillery in Wales (Penderyn whisky).

The Cynon Valley benefits from road links to both Cardiff and Swansea both approximately 20 miles away. The property to rent in The Cynon Valley is your typical South Wales terraced property. The more popular property to rent in the Cynon valley are found in the areas with close proximity to the four main towns, Hirwaun to the north, Aberdare, Mountain Ash and Abercynon to the south. There are also many smaller villages in the Cynon Valley but generally there is a higher rental yield and lower void periods within the four larger towns. There are however some exceptions to that rule. There are three towns that are regarded as affluent areas in The Cynon Valley namely Abernant, Llwydcoed, and Cefn Pennar where property prices are well above the norm for The Valley areas.

Although the coal industry has disbanded many of the working inhabitants commute to Cardiff or Swansea where there are far more employment opportunities.

The Cynon Valley runs parallel to Merthyr and The Rhondda Valley, from the north starting at Rhigos and Penderyn following on southwards to Hirwaun, Trecynon, Llwydcoed, Gadlys, Abernant, Aberdare, Cwmaman, Abercwmboi, Mountain Ash, Cefn Pennar, Penrhiwceiber, ending finally at Ynysyboeth and Abercynon to the south of the valley.

The Cynon Valley boasts some famous sons which include Ioan Gruffydd (Hollywood actor), three founding members of The Stereophonics and Dai Young (Cardiff Blues coach) and the only Welsh prop to be present on three British Lions tours.

Generally the property to rent in the Cynon Valley is occupied by families and within that there is a large housing benefit market.
