Bridgend was a very important location during World War 2. It had a prisoner of war camp based at Island Farm and also had a large munitions factory known as ROF Bridgend. At the heights of production 40,000 workers helped with the supply of the nation’s Arsenal for the war effort. Post war the area continued to be an important part of the UK Government with Regional Government headquarters being based there during The Cold War.
